Sienna Jane's Scene

Sitting, Peeing, and Crawling

I don't know what kind of secret, unspoken competition or collusion Gian and Sienna are engaged in, but it's reached new heights. It started yesterday when Gian sat up on her own for the first time we know of (though she may have managed it a day or two before). Then, after Sienna saw her visiting friends all using her potty, she decided that she had to show everyone that she could do it, too. Twice. And now this morning Gian has started to crawl. I expect Shakespearean sonnets from Sienna by evening.

Croup

So Sienna has been ill with croup (laryngitis) for the last couple of days...with a few more surely to go. No one's been sleeping much (except Gian). It sucks, but we've got to count our blessings that it isn't serious and it's really only the second time she's been significantly sick.

Princess Sienna?

First hike

So today Sienna and I headed out for a casual walk I had convinced myself would last an hour, but we just kept walking. That is, I just kept walking. Sienna was riding in my Deuter baby backpack for almost all of the 5.5km (3.5 miles). As this picture (taken at Palgakjung/팔각정) suggests, she seems to have enjoyed it well enough. I was certainly pleased to have a chance to stretch out and sweat.

Potty time!

Not to be outdone by Gian's rolling over, Sienna chose this evening to use the potty for the first time...and to full effect. She is rightly proud of herself and her mother is beside herself with joy. This may just be too much for one day.

Mommy is busy

A preschool fan

It's official. Sienna is a fan of preschool. This morning she wanted to leave before I was ready or before I had even suggested going out. It's wonderful relief and an assurance that the money is well spent!

Here she is in her first English class. Guess what they were studying?!

Pre-School launch

Sienna started pre-school today. She hopped on the bus without a thought or a tear. Apparently she didn't cry at all during the day. She returned all smiles. And she's been in a good mood all evening.

And she already seems like she's changing. She worked to construct her longest sentence yet: "Sienna and Daddy ate all the seaweed together" (in korean). She didn't quite get it, but she got close. And it is the first time I've heard her try to get a subject, verb, and object all into one sentence. I've heard many combinations of any two of those, but not all three at once.

So we're pretty happy, too. We'll see what happens when it's time to take the bus tomorrow morning.
